We have a lot of huge changes occurring in the next few months. I don't think that anyone will care about the rest of this entry. I just need to write it down for my own memory!
Eating: We will start solids tonight with some soupy rice cereal! We'll do this for about a week until they figure out how to eat with a spoon. Then we can make the cereal into more of an oatmeal consistency (sounds yummy...) and start vegetables and fruits. We will get to try 1 new food every 3 days to make sure that they don't have any bad reactions. It sounds like they will have 1 solid meal a day for the 1st month, 2 meals a day the 2nd month, and up to 3 meals a day the 3rd month. They can start having Cheerios and other small foods that will dissolve at 8 months.
Foods to Avoid for the 1st Year: Honey, Nuts, Dairy, Eggs and Shellfish
Sippy Cups: They will also start using sippy cups with water now!
Eating Schedule that we are working toward:
Wake up/Bottle
Breakfast/Solid Food
Bottle/Nap
Lunch/Solid Food
Bottle/Nap
Dinner/Solid Food
Nighttime/Bottle
Pacifier: Emma is going to have to start giving up the pacifier. She has only used it to sleep until a few weeks ago. She has wanted it a lot more since her reflux developed. Now she can only have it to sleep and she has to give it up completely by 10 months. If I don't put this stuff in writing I will absolutely cave when she is fussy! :)
Teething: That should start soon. The doc told us that Tylenol works best when they are really fussy and that Motrin is better for night since it lasts a little longer. There is also topical oral meds if we need them. He said that most ofter a teether out of the fridge is great.
Sleeping: He said that in the 6-9 month range, babies will start waking up in the middle of the night again. I am really looking forward to that. We can't feed them when they do this to put them back to sleep, only soothe them. We can also let go of the dream feed in the next couple of months!
Emma's Reflux: The Zantac is helping, but it hasn't solved the problem. She will only eat 2-5 ounces at a time until she gets really uncomfortable. Today we are going to change her over to Prilosec to see if that helps more. Keep your fingers crossed!
I think that is all. Stay tuned for pictures of our 1st attempt at solids!
