Granny Green Jeans and the Free Market Economy....

As you know from the earlier post, my mom (Mimi) came out to San Francisco for the past week to visit us and twinzos. We all had a wonderful time with her and have all come away with something to show from the visit! One of the continuing top priorities in the forefront of Mom's mind is what Henry and Emma will end up calling her. Elese's parents are "Nanna & Pop" by default, and "Granny" (which was my preference) makes Mom think of her mother and is perhaps too traditional. As readers also know from the previous posting, the monikers, "Mojo" and "Yo Yo" were floated, though did not seem to garner popular support. After countless brainstorming sessions, the visit yielded an unlikely and unusual front runner - "Granny Green Jeans." More on that later....

When I say we came away with something from the visit, I am, of course, talking about (again) unlikely and unusual pearls of wisdom. Mom loved nothing more than playing with the babies, and when one would get fussy, she would pick them up and sooth them with her oratory skill. Henry was the beneficiary of a lecture on the "theory of Free Market Economies" and a lecture on "process optimization through the isolation of conditional variables." (I am really not kidding!). Emma was treated to topics no less complex or profound. This is what happens when you let a closet college professor sooth a child!! In truth, I think the whole thing reminded her of when I was about Henry & Emma's age when she would try to distract me by reading aloud from her MBA course work.

"Granny Green Jeans" came from the fact that Mom spent a significant amount of time resuscitating our gardens from their terminal state. Between a very dry & hot summer, my personal ineptitude with regard to flora & fauna, and those beautiful bouncing babies, the gardens were flat-lining. Luckily for us, Mom is wizard when it comes to gardens and is often found manicuring her own gardens long after the sun goes down. Because of her talents and the fact that babies were virtually the only only thing that could bring her in from the back yard, mom was dubbed "Granny Green Jeans." The babies loved having her here and we are all sorry that GGJ had to leave!
